Known Issue for installing PowerQuotePLUS on Windows XP

Windows XP has three levels of users:  Administrator Level, Power User Level, and User Level.

  • PowerQuotePLUS works without restriction when installed and used while logged on as an Administrator.
  • PowerQuotePLUS works without restriction when installed and used while logged on as a Power User.
  • PowerQuotePLUS cannot run when a user logs on at the lowest level, User Level.

The reason why it can't (and will never) run in a User Level environment is PowerQuotePLUS is installed in your computer's C:\Program Files folder, which is protected by the NTFS file system structure.  The databases that PowerQuotePLUS use are also installed in this folder, and Read/Write permissions are denied to this folder under XP's security protocols.  Since this program was developed prior to the release of Windows XP Security Protocols, it is considered a "legacy" program, Microsoft suggests that it be used by Power Users (the middle-tier security).

Networking PowerQuotePLUS

PowerQuotePLUS was designed to work locally, but many users have been using it across a network, nonetheless.  If you choose to use it on a network, please backup your PWRQUOTE.MDB file regularly.  I've repaired two databases in the past two years, but the users lost a day's worth of quotes....
